How long would it take to recive a bachlors degree at an online college?

I’ve heard of people finishing up and receiving their bachelors degree in less than 2 years, and some got their AA in less than a year. I’ am not sure which school they attended, I think they said university of Phoenix, and it was completely online. Is this true? How long does it really take to receive a bachelors degree in criminal justice?

Any schools that can offer a 4 year degree in less than 2 years would make me nervous. I would wonder if they are even a legitimate school.

Certainly if someone has previous education or they are allowed to test our of many basic classed do to professional experience, you could certaily reduce the amount of time in school.

But just because a school is online, shouldn’t raise expectations that the program would have a faster turn around. The only way I would image someone being able to complete an online degree faster is if they took more classes because they don’t waste time traveling to and from classes.

I’m just finishing a 2-yr associates in CJ at a local college, and transferring to American Military University (online) for my Bachelors degree. First off, you need to make sure wherever you are transferring to is *regionally* accredited. National accreditation means nothing, it’s only important that a university is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the US Dept. of Education.

Secondly, as far as the time to complete a degree is concerned, that varies and depends on the course load that you take on. There are some accelerated programs out there, but bear in mind that these will (or at least should) include the same amount of work as a normal length program. The only difference is that the work is condensed into a shorter period of time, which can be difficult to handle if you’re on a busy schedule. I’ve taken 8 week courses and 16 week online courses through my local college, and I can tell you there is no way I could earn my degree faster taking all 8-week courses. They are simply double the work of a 16 week course in half the time, meaning I can only take on half the normal number of classes during a semester.
